Two weeks ago I attended the Internet Retailer 2011 Conference and Exhibition in beautiful San Diego.  I’ve been to the conference several times in the past, but this one seemed a little different. I felt like I didn’t see as many retailers as in prior years or at least as many as when it was held in Chicago.

The vibe I got was that retailers weren’t there to talk about anything related to online performance marketing, which is what I wanted to focus on, but rather to seek out partnerships.

Don’t get me wrong, it was still a good show.  I met a lot of great people and since I had more than 14 clients that were also attending, I was able to connect with them as well.

I got to spend a lot of time walking the exhibit hall and notice that many of the traditional print catalogs were showcasing iPad apps. I love my iPad so I thought it was a great trend and a smart move for them to allow customers to shop from their tablets. I know I will be doing it.

The conference and the entire trip were made even better by the fact that I managed to squeeze in some golfing at the gorgeous Torrey Pines course in nearby La Jolla.
