Google has a new policy, and if you aren’t following suit, you’re likely to be left in the dark.

Google is focusing its search algorithm on mobile optimized websites. Which means, that sites that perform better for mobile platforms, are also more likely to rank higher in Google’s search algorithm.

view_from_the_topLooking at data from over the past few years, online marketers have been successful in getting consumers to recognize the myriad of benefits associated with making a purchase online. The amount of online shopping has grown and now represents a large portion of overall purchases.

Mobile has has helped fuel that surge in online shopping. US shoppers spent $334 billion online last year and $2.9 trillion in physical stores. According to market researcher Forrester, mobile influenced more than $1 trillion of physical sales.

View From the Top: Jet.com Hits Air Pocket, While Marketplaces Fly High

It was just a little over three weeks ago that Jet.com launched to much fanfare and promises that it would strive to rival the world’s largest ecommerce company, Amazon.

But is seems that the once (albeit breifly) high-flying Jet.com has been grounded by some retailers. The Wall Street Journal reported this week that Jet had placed affiliate links to hundreds of retailers websites, including Macys, Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, The Gap, Walgreens, Home Depot, and many others, without their permission. As a result, those retailers have demanded Jet remove those links – and Jet has since complied.
